Robert Canty Shiatsu and Asian Bodywork Therapies

The Kids Karate program, developed in 2003, is currently running at Spontaneous Celebrations, 45 Danforth St, Jamaica Plain, Ma. The program was created to give children, aged 5 - 13, a chance to experience martial arts in a safe, supportive environment. We honor Spontaneous Celebrations mission of community support by offering our classes to eveyone regardless of skill level or ability to pay. Although classes are based on the classical outlines of Goju Ryu Karate we have added Tai Chi, yoga, Shiatsu, bamboo sword fencing, and calligraphy to this outline to give the children a broader experience. The most important element of our teaching is the bond that we encourage the children to develop with themselves and with the others in the group. We stress teamwork and group development rather than competition so that the kids can enjoy their time with each other and with their teachers. 

 The class is run in 10 week sessions but kids can begin at any time during a session. The class is every Saturday morning from 9:45 until 11:00. The cost is on a sliding scale of 5 to 8 dollars per week but all are welcome regardless of ability to pay.
